Design System
My team developed a unified design system to power four university websites through a single CMS implementation. By implementing atomic component design principles, we created a scalable architecture that enabled each university to maintain its unique identity while sharing core design patterns and templates. This solution eliminated redundancy and technical debt while ensuring brand consistency across the digital ecosystem.
01
Visual Styles
Through careful documentation of typography, color palettes, spacing hierarchies, and visual treatments unique to each institution, we established a foundation that honored their individual brand equity while finding opportunities for shared patterns.
02
Brand Voice
We developed a flexible content framework that allowed for tonal shifts in messaging while maintaining overall brand cohesion - delivering direct, action-oriented language for military audiences while adopting a more traditional academic voice for civilian programs.
03
Typography
Through careful implementation of design tokens and CSS custom properties, we established a flexible type system that could seamlessly switch between different typographic styles while maintaining consistent structural patterns across all properties.
04
Result
This strategic solution empowered our teams to work more efficiently while delivering cost-effective, scalable digital products that preserved brand differentiation. The efforts decreased website load times and maintenance times and increased engagement significantly. We were able to launch this new design system at the same time that we improved the overall website(s) experience.
